East Flatbush is literally our neighborhood. The shop at 2361 Nostrand Ave sits at the Junction, and the blocks running east from there - Farragut, Erasmus, Remsen Village, Wingate, out to the cemetery line - are where our trucks spend more time than anywhere else in Brooklyn.

The housing tells one big story. When the Nostrand Ave subway pushed south in the 1920s, developers filled the old farmland with long, uniform rows of attached brick houses - porch fronts, shared walls, block after identical block between Church and Linden. Caribbean families made this neighborhood theirs starting in the 1960s, Jamaican and Haitian and Trinidadian and Guyanese homeowners buying these rows and passing them down, and East Flatbush became one of the strongest Black homeownership communities in New York City. Many of these houses have been in one family for fifty years. The plumbing has too.
